THE WALLY HEIDER ORCHESTRA

Is he conducting, playing, or both?

Heider Remote legend and site contributor Biff Dawes recently discovered a 78 transcription of a band Wally had in Oregon on ebay, bought it to share this on the site. The label mentions: Wally Heider Orchestra recording at the Student Union Ballroom at the University of Oregon, homecoming dance 1944. One can ponder the significance of this recording in many ways.
Probably a revelation to many that he played saxophone at all. But I imagine the young Wally to be quick an operator – did he arrange for this recording to be made? My guess is that he set up the broadcast AND the recording. I’d love to know the facts. Thanks Biff!
